Sarah`s Key

I read Sarah`s Key in the month of July .Julia Jarmond, writer for an American magazine in France , investigates the Vel` d`Hiv roundup of Jews during WWII in Paris ,France , when she finds out that the apartment she and her unfaithful husband and her 11 year old daughter are going to move too was acquired by her husband`s family after a Jewish family who lived there was taken in the round up .The story moves back and forth between Julia and Sarah , who was the little girl who was part of the family that was taken during the roundup.
I liked the story because I have always been interested in stories from WWII but I thought that Julia`s story about her unfaithful husband and later her new romance was a bit sappy .It had too much of a romance story while the story about her investigation of Vel d` Hiv was very interesting .

The Ten Year Nap

The Ten Year Nap by Meg Wolitzer is about 4 women who have chosen to abandon their careers and to stay at home with their children , after their children have started school they begin to have their doubts about if they should stay at home or return to the work force .How valid is their reason to stay home when their children are at school all day and with after school activities .I myself have been a stay-at-home-mom for almost 19 years .My youngest will start school in a year and I am finally awakening from my own Nap.I have enjoyed staying at home immensely and I certainly think it is worth it , but now I am ready to combine having children and work.I could relate to some of the women in this novel and enjoyed reading it .

The Forgotten Garden

After having forgotten a bit about updating my blog I am back with The Forgotten Garden .Summer has started and I am busy with the kids and haven`t had much computer time . I am enjoying some good books though and I will try to update what I have read .Some of those books that I read were my own , yeah ! The Forgotten Garden is a library book though , my daughter wanted to visit the library on one of the cold and rainy days we have had this unusual summer and I couldn`t resist picking this one up and a couple of others "sigh" .The Forgotten Garden is about a tiny girl "Nell" who is abandoned on a ship that traveled from England to Australia in 1913 .The story goes back and forth between Nell , her granddaughter and other women of her family in different times from the 1900`s to 2005 who try to trace Nell`s story.

Have a great reading summer everyone !

G is for Gumshoe

After having read some books I really did not like very much , I needed something I knew I would like ,Sue Grafton`s Kinsey Millhone mysteries . Since I still have a couple of her books in her alphabet series to read I thought it would be a good choice and since it is one of my own books even better .It will be one less book of the huge tbr mountain ;)
G is for Gumshoe is a rich , complex, and gripping tale in which Kinsey`s grit is tested to it`s utmost as she unearth`s the gruesome truth about a long-buried betrayal and , in the process , comes face-to-face with the grisley fact of her own mortality.

Comfort Food

Welcome to my blog .I will mostly be using it to let you know about the books that I am reading and my reviews . I just finished reading Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs .It was my first book that I read by her .I enjoyed the beginning 100 pages or so but after that I started to get annoyed by the characters and the whole story .It is about a woman who has her own cooking show on tv but because of low ratings is trying to reinvent it and fix the problems in her personal life as well.
Ofcourse all the problems seem to magically dissapear .The last 50 pages or so I just started skipping whole pages , I didn`t want to waste anymore time on it .
She did write about some delicious food which made me crave some yummy food and this week I made my family some delicious spaghetti with escarole and anchovies from one of Rachael Ray`s recipe .Thankfully this was a library book but unfortunately I bought The Friday Night Knitting Club a couple of months ago .
It will probably go to the bottom of my huge tbr mountain .
